The One Diet You Will Follow

Which Diet Is Best For Weight Loss?

There are many diets to choose from when you want to lose weight. What is the best way to choose a diet that is right for you? How do you pick a diet that will help you lose weight and keep it off? How do you know which diets won't kill you or give you a heart attack, or worse yet, make you gain weight? How much is a new diet going to cost?

These are all factors in choosing a diet for weight loss, and there are many more considerations. There are books, television shows, web sites, programs and clubs, all designed to manipulate the consumer. The bottom line for all of these venues is not whether Jane Homemaker loses weight or not. The bottom line is money. How much money can we make when we promote our newest weight loss gimmick? The health and well being of the consumer rarely factors in.

The best way to choose a diet that is right for you, is to choose a diet you will follow. First, how much money are you willing to invest? This will help you determine what type of program to start with. If you don't want to spend any money, a diet in which you have to purchase food, or pay a membership fee is a bad idea. You might look for informative books, free community groups, or free internet support groups.

A second factor is to decide how much support and interaction you desire from the outside. Can you encourage yourself? Is your spouse encouraging? Do you have friends who are willing to support you making healthy food choices? Do you need group encouragement and accountability? Aside from money, this is the most important factor. You need to stay motivated and inspired, in order for a diet to work.

Third, are you truly committed to change? You have to change your mind before you can change any other aspect of your life. Once you have decided to have your life be different, you will make the changes necessary to bring about your new reality. A diet that requires the exclusion of entire food groups may be too drastic a change. Sometimes, changes manifest in the small things first. Like drinking more water, or cutting back on processed foods; simple changes can make drastic results.

Finally, the best diet is to choose something you can do. The only diet that will work is the one you consistently practice. Excess weight won't disappear overnight, but you can change your mind, and your daily behavior. And that is the best diet.

Hi Deb! I have a self-imposed-strict life time diet! I eat about the same thing every day. I mention "diet" and people say "like you need to diet!" Well yes! How else can I maintain this beauty! My good looks do not come without sacrifice. You know I could have been a Mr. America competitor? That's right! The only things stopping me were my face, height, posture, beard, broken clavicle, and other broken bones that protrude in odd directions. Thanks again for another great hub! Beauty is as beauty does!

Hey Deb. Thanks you for your lies, I mean compliments.

I saw you posted over at my place and I posted this below

I didn't mention that I am a recovering chocoholic. Once in a long while (several times a day sometimes) I "reward myself" with an overdose of chocolate. This, of course, leads to flogging myself with a cat-o-nine tails. There is wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then - I repeat!

I think the third factor, commitment, is the most important factor in sticking to a diet. If you don't have that, it doesn't matter which regimen you decide to attempt. Great hub with good tips!
