60 Day Challenge- Reviewed, Revised, Revived
63"Everyone who got where he is has had to begin where he was." Robert Louis Stevenson
And so I begin again. Where I was. The sixty day challenge came the first time, while I was brand new to hub pages, and had no idea what I was doing. Honestly, I still don't. But I am willing to learn. I did learn a lot from the first challenge, and I realized that the learning curve is steep. Much like having a baby. I've done that eight times, and still haven't got it right. So I figure one more time around with the 60 Day Challenge, and perhaps I will learn a little more.
"Duty makes us do things well, but love makes us do them beautifully." Zig Ziglar
I do love to write. I like to think that sometimes I do it beautifully. After college, I didn't do much writing for duty. That may explain the sorry state of many of my hubs. I don't usually write to make money. I write because I want to say something. I forget to add links. I don't check key words. I forget the frills and extras that make up a well written hub.
One of my goals for this challenge is to write beautifully, and well. I plan to research my topics first, before choosing what I want to write about. I intend to add links, and I want to get the back linking done right this time. A beautifully written hub can also be a well written hub, and that is my first goal.
"The first requisite of success is the ability to apply your physical and mental energies to one problem without growing weary." Thomas Edison
My second goal for the 60 Day Challenge is to apply myself daily, for sixty days. During the last challenge, my physical and mental energies were split several different ways: writing, starting a new business: kids end of school schedules: upcoming summer plans... The list could go on, of things I am distracted by.
Now, the kids are heading back to school, my hours are stable at the bookstore, and I have time to devote to writing and learning about self promotion. While I did enjoy an increase in page views as a result of the first challenge, I believe with applied effort, I may see a more impressive increase. I might even make my first money!
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." Hellen Keller
The sixty day challenge team is a great network of support, friendship, knowledge and information. During the previous challenge, I was never quite sure if I was on the team or not, and I never felt a part of the group. I realize that this is all my insecurity and baggage.
I declare that I am on the team, and will fully support and encourage my fellow team members. In addition, I will seek out help when I need it, and not feel stupid or ashamed or left out when I don't understand something. If I ask questions, I know they will be answered. Kindly.
"First comes thought; then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination." Napolean Hill
My final goal for this challenge is to learn to be a more organized writer. From conception through creation, I intend to have a plan. Before I begin writing, I will plan my topics. Before I begin randomly using backlinks, I will have a plan to optimize my exposure. Planning for me is a weak spot. I typically get an idea and run with it, while it is still bouncing around inside my head. While things usually turn out, they may be better with some forethought.
In light of this realization, I will add to my log, as I develop ideas for topics. I wish the best of luck to all teammates, and I look forward to reading the great hubs that will result.
Namaste friends.
Monday, August 16, 2010:
Started a successful day with the 60 day challenge. My first success is in selecting topics for the upcoming challenge. My second success, albeit a small one to veterans of hubpages, is that I figured out how to load the chart (and how to find the chart) with my traffic information. One small step for me, one giant step toward success for the team!
Topics for 60dc
I. Holidays: I look forward to writing several hubs on the upcoming holidays, including product reviews, recipes and family traditions. I have yet to delve into writing these types of hubs, and look forward to increasing the scope of my writing.
II. Music: Music is essential to my life; an outward expression of the innermost longings of the soul. I plan to write music reviews, along with hubs about various artists.
III. Spirituality: Having written several hubs along the lines of my daily bible study, and finding them lacking in readership, I have decided to try a new angle. My hubs on the Tao are well received, and I may venture into a series of articles regarding modern day spirituality, called "Prairie Sage".
IV. Creative Writing: This is my favorite genre, and one which I don't practice enough. I wrote several short stories about "Cindy, Mindy and Bob", which were well received by the people who read them, and which satisfied my desire to just sit and write. I hope to balance these non revenue earning hubs with others that have more income potential.
V. Health and Fitness: Having tried every diet ever designed, and most different types of exercise, including martial arts, aerobics, weight training, running, yoga, tai chi, and Nia dance, I feel somewhat strong in this area. I can write several articles of interest, and hopefully make a good return.
So, for today, I feel I have been successful. All we can do is seek to fulfill our purpose in any given moment. In this moment, I am totally fulfilled.
Namaste friends.
Tuesday and Wednesday: I am overwhelmed by the trainload of information for this challenge. Just when I think I find something out, I realize that I have only skimmed the tip of the iceberg. Spent two whole days researching hubs and keywords. Then spent hours reading through hublogs and figuring out who is on the team.
I may be too slow for this challenge.
Thursday, August 19, 2010: Finally, I got one hub written and published. A second hub waits in the wings, for the finishing touches. I have rough drafts of the first ten, so I am not panicking. Yet.
Saturday, August 21, 2010: I have published two christmas hubs, two jazz hubs and one prairie sage hub so far this week. Am feeling somewhat productive, and almost a little organized.

Good luck with your challenge. Will be watching and hopefully learning from the sidelines. Everyone needs a cheering squad. Right?
Deb- here weeee goooo again! So happy to see you here taking it again. And as you seem to have a knack for turning me on to new music you have not let me down here. The Beauty in Ugly by Jason Mraz is now my new favorite song. I cant get it out of my head.
Anyway let the fun begin .. and heres to our success and growth:)
Sorted - Great to have you joining the mayhem again. It is going to be great fun and we might learn something along the way :)
Hi there Debbie, nice to meet you. Hopefully this challenge will bring us both a bit more up-to-speed. Looking forward to working with ya!
Welcome back!
I have a couple of Jason Mraz videos strung around my hubs also - good taste!
Deborah, I'm sure you will achieve all of your goals. I am looking forward to working with you.
Some great goals Deborah and I am excited to be working with you. I know it must be great when I see you are back for your second trip.
Deborah, here we are Together Again! After what I learned from the last challenge (the stuff that didn't go over my head) I know this challenge is going to hit a home run.
It is great to have you as part of the team again. Your traffic shows you have done well. Good-Luck to you!
I am so glad you are participating again. Happy to see you back and I am sure it would be much bigger than the first. Here's to our success!!
Namaste
Deborah - Good luck with your goals! I appreciate your honesty and openess. Looking forward to working with you on this challenge!
Good luck with your goals and improving your learning curve. It can be quite intimidating and difficult, as you have said, you didn't feel like part of the team. I know many people who have felt that way and you were right when you said it was more inline with yourself than those who you were working with. I would like to let you know that should you need help or have a question, I'll be glad to help at any time. I look forward to learning from you and passing on whatever I learn as well. :)
Hi, don't do it!
Don't do what?
Plan before you write.
Why not?
Because that is not the time for YOU to plan.
You write what comes into your mind and it flows as if a dam has burst and the wave is flowing down the valley. Your ceative juices make your fingers work to get that thought string onto paper. There is no way to plan that, it comes by instinct.
Plan after you have written.
Look at what you have produced and extract the keyword elements that fly off the page.
Now do your keyword and synonym research.
Use the new (and old) words to adjust your content to meet the needs of the search engine.
Then add all the pretty paraphenalia (picturres, videos etc).
When you have the finished product, publish.
Each of us has a different way of working that is comfortable for us. If we make it a chore it is no longer pleasureable. Adapt your way of working just enough to suit the needs but not enough to detract from what is your style.
Planning is necessary but a plan can simply be to plan to do something at a particular time.
I have outlined a plan that should best suit you (I hope).
Try it, you will still be happy at the end, rather than stressed at the beginning.
Let me know if it works.
I hope to be able to work with a non-stressed 60DC colleague for the duration of the challenge and beyond - welcome aboard.
You would have received this comment earlier if Hubpages, in their wisdom, had not scheduled maintenance for the time that I hit 'Post Comment'. Anyway, the original comment is post, dead, buried. This comment is much better structured and easier to follow.
Good luck!
8 kids?????????????? Did I read that right????
Where will you get the time??
Good luck, looking forward to working with you for the challenge..
Looking forward to meeting you often on our journey with this 60 day Challenge.
Being a team member is hard for me as I have been writing for years on my own. This is one of the reasons I am joining the challenge to learn from other writers and offer any help I can to those that ask as well.
Wahoo cow gerl! Lets ride that Google horse high and dry! *united we stand, divided we fall* - I hear you ride well! hehehe
Good luck and can't wait to see how ya'll do. I am too afraid to get in over my head again but really want to see how you guys do! Again, best of luck and go, go, go!
Ms. Deborah, you almost have me talked into it. It looks like I am going to get a job within the next week, I think I will eventually make a passive income by writing here and my blogs. If you are willing, I guess there is no penalty for failing, just not trying...Thanks for an encouraging Hub
I am rooting for you!
That was such a fun read. Loved the vids.
Reminded me of this quote
"Your journey has molded you for your greater good, and it was exactly what it needed to be. Don't think that you've lost time. It took each and every situation you've encountered to bring you to the now. And now is right on time." Asha Tyson
I am going to hang back a bit, I am spending so much time and worry trying to hook up to this, I am losing momentum. I will encourage you and share your stuff, and do everything as a newbie to boost your traffic. Peace
Good luck as we begin this wonderful adventure. I look forward to reading your hubs and learning from an extreme challenge vet!
8 Kids! You are my hero! I'm looking forward to doing the challenge with you.
Very good plan for the challenge. This is my first challenge so I know I have a lot to learn. I'll look forward to working with you. Best of luck.
Thanks for an interesting and entertaining Hublog. I joined late in case you're wondering where I suddenly popped up from. haha. Good luck!
Interesting... I'm pullin for ya!!
Deborah, What a great 60 day challenge hub log! It is beautiful and speaks volumes to me. Part of my failure last time was due to my own insecurities and baggage. I let so much get to me and get in my way, from distractions to fears of whether I was doing it right. For my part, the support of the team made me feel like a burden, which was all in my head. I was afraid to ask questions because I felt stupid having to ask.
You give me new hope that when I feel insecure I can send you a quick note to you and check myself. Please feel free to use my e-mail in the same fashion.
Let's not allow our personal baggage to stand in our way of success! Bug Hugs! Great Luck!
Welcome to the team. Good luck with the return of the 60 dc!
Good luck team member.
Great hub, I like your writing style and love your quotes. One of my favorites, is the one by Heller Keller, "Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." I am so looking forward to working and learning with this team. Much success to you! Namaste. :)
Deborah, sorry I wasn't following until now! Great 60 day plan!
Congrats on 100 hubs. I haven't officially joined any challenges, but am trying to write at least one hub a day.
